Del Norte Elementary School Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We are so excited that we finally get to come back to our beautiful new school. I can't wait for the students to see it. I know there are a lot of questions and concerns about how it is going to look. Our teachers and staff have worked hard to make this a positive experience for everyone involved. I am going to do my best to explain our expectations and procedures. The Public Education Department and RISD have given us a firm directive that staff and students wear a mask at all times. Any student that cannot or will not wear a mask will have to be a virtual student. For the safety of our staff and students, we take this very seriously. Parents are asked to stay in their vehicles during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. No parents or visitors that are not RISD employees will be allowed in the building. Visitors during the school day can come to the front doors and call the office. The appropriate person will come to the door and assist you. The office number is on the front door. The school district will provide every student with a breakfast, lunch and two water bottles. A student may bring their lunch, but parents will not be allowed to bring them lunch during the day.
For morning drop off, we have a few new procedures that we will need to follow. Student drop off will occur in the two lanes in front of the building on the south side. We ask that you only turn right into the parking lot. Walkers will enter the school on the north side of the building. The gate on the north side of the playground will be open, and they will enter through there. These procedures are designed to keep students spread out from each other. A map is included to illustrate this. If you need information about bussing, please contact Pollard Bussing at 625-9122.
Pick up after school will look a lot different. Kindergarten and 1st-grade students will be picked up in the drive-through lanes in the front of the building. They will come out the front doors on the south side of the building. Second and 3rd graders will be picked up in the parking lot on the west side of the building. Please enter the parking lot from St. Andrews Lane and exit on to Garden. Fourth and 5th graders will be picked up in the North parking lot. Please use the west entrance to enter the north parking lot for 4th and 5th grade.
We know that there are a lot of procedures and guidelines that we are being required to follow. These are put in place to protect our students and staff. We truly appreciate your patience and support.
